Entry 3: 2nd Grade ESL Teacher: Spanish/English Language Arts

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! 2nd Grade ESL Teacher: Spanish/English Language Arts One of my main goals as a future teacher is to be a certified ESL teacher. My goal is to teach English as a second language to students across the globe. Mrs. Rodriguez has been an ESL teacher for many years and has experience of dealing with young ESL students. From what she has told me, ESLs have a better time listening and speaking than reading and writing. However, their motivation drives these students to improve their reading and writing skills in English. ESL students are self-motivated to learning English to improve their second language skills. ESL students further their English language skills by doing simple things. ESLs improve their skills by speaking to their friends. Communicating to their friends in English gives ESLs opportunities to improve their English language skills. Speaking to their families in English motivates ESLs even more, because not only are they improvin...

Entry 2: Interview with An ELL

This is defiantly an experience that I have never had until now. The person I have chosen to interview is Mrs. Eva Rodriguez, who is a second grade bilingual teacher, and has worked in HISD for 15 years. I first met Mrs. Rodriguez in the year 2017, when I volunteered at the school she worked at. During this time, Mrs. Rodriguez’s native language is Spanish. She and her family struggled at first, but eventually they adjusted to living in the US after a few years. Growing up Mrs. Rodriguez saw how her teachers tried their best to include ELL students. Her teachers were sensitive to her culture ...

Selena Rodriguez's Blog Hello! Welcome to my very first blog. My name is Selena Rodriguez, and I am a junior  at the University of Houston. I am currently majoring in Teaching & Learning with an EC-6 certification, in hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher. The grade levels I would like to teach are grades Pre-K through 2nd grade.   As my video plays, you will discover that I have encountered people from all over the world. I am not fluent in any language besides English. I can speak a few words and phrases in Japanese, French, German, and Spanish. I know a few ASL signs as well.    Although I am Hispanic, I am not able to read, write, or speak Spanish fluently like many of my family members. In the textbook “ Second Language Acquisition: An Introductory Course ”, by Gass and Selinker, the text mentions how during “interactions with speakers of another language/culture, we have certain expectations and we often produce stereotyped...
